Start 2 Beginner Polish – student manual
START 1 a START 2
After the START 1 textbook, which is a comprehensive material for learning Polish at the A0 level, we are releasing the next part of the series – the START 2 textbook. Based on the material introduced in the ten units of START 1, we significantly develop all four language skills.
What characterizes the first textbook – an emphasis on automating the full constructions needed in everyday situations in which a foreigner is likely to find himself, regular phonetics exercises, or a deliberately limited presentation of grammatical issues – is systematically developed in the START 2 textbook.
In the first textbook, introducing the student to the Polish language system, we consciously abandon some forms, focusing on automating the use of the most frequent ones. Hence, for example, the decision to present only the forms of the singular conjugation.
START 2, on the other hand, significantly expands all the skills that the student has acquired in working with the START 1 textbook. This can be seen perfectly in the development of speaking skills. By introducing some small elements, we allow more freedom in speaking and increase the student’s communicative abilities. As a result, we emphasize the following constructions:
– conjunctions
– pronoun which
– I know / know
– interrogative pronouns
– must, can, want
– what for?
– already / yet
– I like…
– someone, something, somewhere, sometime
– can/should
– better / worse, more / less
All of these elements seem fairly easy to introduce, but only when the student has some solid background and learns them in a clear context.
