Classes with the textbook from the very beginning should be conducted in Polish, thus provoking students to open up to communication faster. This task is facilitated by the teacher’s commentary, which accurately describes the way of conducting classes, step by step, and indicates variants of working with the material depending on the objectives of the lesson, group size, or students’ advancement.
While working with the material, two tests are planned. They are included in the Teacher’s Book, while the recordings are on a CD in the main manual. Tests check all language skills, i.e. listening, reading, writing, and speaking. They have been constructed in such a way as to confirm the achievement of specific language competences to the students, close a certain stage of learning, and encourage them to continue their efforts.
Additional games and exercises
The aim of each lesson is to master the material. In order to develop a habitual mastery of creating the discussed structure and manipulating it, we offer a large selection of additional, simple automation exercises in the Teacher’s Book. We mean the possibility of practicing individual syntactic structures, which consists of repeating the same pattern over and over again and filling it each time with different lexical content. It is important that during such a drill we exercise and control at the same time. In addition to materials for simple automation exercises, this section also includes more complex games to diversify the lesson after mastering the material and play roles that put the student to face a specific communication task. An important purpose of these additional exercises, available only to the teacher, is that thanks to them it is possible to introduce an element of surprise during the classes and to distract the student from constant work with the textbook.
Intensive Phonetic Training
Constant work on the correctness and fluency is crucial from the point of view of teaching success, you can even risk the statement that it is more important than work on grammatical correctness. Therefore, in addition to the phonetic exercises appearing in each unit of the START textbook, in the PHONETICS section, an important component of our program intended for the initial stage of learning is INTENSIVE PHONETIC TRAINING – an innovative element of language learning material at A level.
INTENSIVE PHONETIC TRAINING is a collection of recordings consolidating the grammatical and communication structures that appeared in the textbook. The proposed recordings are either very simple drills recording only one linguistic difficulty (e.g. a verb conjugation or a coincidence form), or they are a set of the most important, stylistically diverse sentences from a given lesson unit. The exercises can be used during the lesson or for the student’s independent work. Working with it is about listening and repeating a pattern, which is aimed to improve listening comprehension and pronunciation, but also helps to remember complete, ready-to-use structures.
For students’ and teachers’ convenience, we provide transcriptions of recordings that did not appear in full in the student’s textbook.
